Christy Gelback received the Hudnut Scholarship in Public Service for the 2007-2008 academic year. This scholarship honors the legacy of William H. Hudnut III and his significant contributions to the quality of life in Indianapolis and central Indiana. A devoted public servant, Hudnut served as a Congressman from Indiana's 11th Congressional District (1973-1974) and Mayor of Indianapolis (1976-1991).
"I applied for the William Hudnut scholarship to decrease the amount of time I spend working during the school year," explained Christy. "Since the scholarship helps to decrease the amount of time I spend working, I will be able to volunteer for more organizations in Indianapolis."
In addition to her studies in public affairs, Christy is also pursuing a minor in Spanish and the American Humanics Certificate in Nonprofit Management & Leadership. She volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana and has served as a camp counselor and Camp Development Intern for Highland Lakes, working to establish a volunteer program and funding for the camp. After graduation, Christy hopes to have a career as a Director of Development and/or a Volunteer Coordinator for a nonprofit organization.
