Gifts of publicly traded stock allow donors to claim a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the securities on the date the gift is made. Additionally, donors pay no capital gains tax on any appreciation in the value of the securities since they were acquired. Securities may be electronically transferred to the School by contacting your broker. Consult your tax advisor for detailed information.
Making a Gift Through Your Will
Bequests, which are gifts made through a will, are an easy and effective way to make a significant contribution to the School. A bequest may provide for a specific dollar gift, a percentage of your estate, or other assets to be given to SPEA.
Making a Life Income Gift
Donors can make a substantial gift to SPEA while still earning income from the donated assets by using life income vehicles, such as charitable remainder trusts, or deferred gift annuities. Life income gifts may provide some or all of the following benefits:
- A current charitable income tax deduction
- Protection of capital gain in appreciated property used to make your gift
- A reduction in estate and inheritance taxes
- Professional management of your gift
- Tax-free income
