Undergraduate Scholarship Opportunities
IUPUI offers many scholarships for both incoming freshmen and continuing students. Scholarships recognize academic achievement, leadership, and community service. The following scholarships are available for SPEA freshmen and continuing students:
New SPEA Student Scholarship
An award of $500 for a beginning (first semester) student majoring in one of SPEA's academic programs. Qualified students must have graduated in the top 25% of their high school class and earned a SAT score of 1000 or more (or ACT score of 21 or more). Essay and transcript must be submitted with application to the IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships. Deadline is March 1.

Jason Baker Award
An award of $500 will be given to provide recognition and financial support to a SPEA student who wishes to pursue a career in law enforcement. There is no GPA requirement and essays will be judged on the student's ability to demonstrate good character, integrity, discipline and commitment to the profession of law enforcement. Deadline is March 2.

Cory R. Elson Scholarship
Approximate award of $2,000 in the form of credit for tuition and fees at IUPUI to an undergraduate criminal justice student. To apply, students must have completed 60 or more credit hours, have at least a 2.67 GPA, and wish to pursue a career in policing. Deadline is March 3. Indianapolis World Police & Fire Games Scholarships
Current full-time and retired police officers and firefighters in the state of Indiana are welcome to apply for the Indianapolis World Police & Fire Games Scholarship. Recipients are eligible to receive scholarship money to pay for the cost of tuition and fees for up to four courses each year (two courses per semester, maximum). Courses must be completed at IUPUI. SPEA Alumni Association Scholarships
An award of $1,000 to three current SPEA students, undergraduate and graduate, in the last year of their program. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Hudnut Scholarship in Public Service
An award of $1,000 will be awarded each year to a full-time or part-time undergraduate public affairs student. An essay and resume are required. Recipient(s) will be chosen by members of the Undergraduate Policy Committee based on academic excellence and quality of application. Deadline is March 1.

Bingham McHale LLP INGroup Legislative Conference Scholarship
Award of $1,000 to a student who is pursuing a career in public service within Indiana state government. Applicants must be an undergraduate student, either full-time or part-time, and must have at least 60 credit hours or more at the time of application. Students must attend the Legislative Conference in December. SPEA students must complete an application and include their current resume. Deadline is September 12.

Plater International Scholars Scholarship
An award of $1,000 will be awarded each year to a full-time or part-time student who has shown a commitment to international affairs. An essay and resume are required. Recipient(s) will be chosen by members of the Scholarship Committee based on academic excellence and quality of application. Deadline is April 1.

Graduate Scholarship Opportunities

Lawrence M. Borst Fellowship
This unique fellowship provides financial support for a talented SPEA graduate student to gain experience with the Indiana Senate, especially in finance and budgetary analysis and programs. This one-year experience consists of a 20-hour per week commitment during the fall semester with the student typically enrolling as a full-time graduate student. The approximate award for the fall semester is $5,000. The spring semester consists of a full-time commitment during which time the student may register in a practicum course but take no other classes. During the spring semester, the Borst Intern will be paid at the rate earned by other interns, approximately $300.00 per week. Deadline is March 1. Samuel L. Hopper Scholarship
An amount of $1,000 awarded to a graduate student who has completed 18 hours toward the Master of Health Administration degree. Johnson Community Service Fellowship
Approximately $9,500 awarded to a first or second year graduate student in SPEA. Any previous graduate GPA must be a 3.0 or above. Student must demonstrate their record of community service and complete an internship (approved by a SPEA faculty member) with a community nonprofit organization or governmental agency. C. Michael Pitts Scholarship
Approximately $2,000 awarded to a first or second year graduate student in SPEA. This award is for an IUPUI SPEA student seeking a MPA and who has an interest in pursuing a career in public service or the nonprofit sector. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average, be a resident of the state of Indiana, and have a demonstrated financial need. Deadline is March 1.
This award was established in memory of C. Michael Pitts, who served as an associate professor for SPEA in labor relations and mediation for many years before his death in 2002. For more information, contact Luke Bickel 317-278-0308 or lbickel@iupui.edu.

Tom and Pat DeCoster Scholarship
An award of $1,500 to support a first or second year graduate student in SPEA for one year. To be eligible, a student must be a single parent, attend full-time or part-time, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipient(s) will be chosen by members of the SPEA Scholarship Committee based on academic achievement and quality of the application. Deadline is March 1. Robert E. Martin Scholarship
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a first or second year graduate student in SPEA. This award is for an IUPUI SPEA student seeking a MPA and who has an interest in public management and or financial management. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average, be a resident of the state of Indiana, and have a demonstrated financial need. Deadline is April 1. Graduate Student Assistantships
SPEA IUPUI offers graduate assistantships and University Fellowships through a competitive application process. The graduate assistants work 20 hours per week during the academic year. These are research assistantships and not teaching assistantships. In exchange for the 20 hours per week, GAs receive full tuition, most fees, student health insurance and a stipend of $9,000 that is paid out monthly over the academic year. Graduate Assistantships are awarded in March for students who will attend full time.
